For the longest library life possible, platinum cure (addition cure) silicone is the best choice. Our HC-series, P-series, and VB series rubbers are platinum-cure systems.
A platinum-cured silicone casting, mask, or sculpture can have a very long lifespan, lasting upwards of 30 years. Unlike tin silicone, platinum silicones do not evaporate or break down easily.
Platinum-cure silicone rubbers are resistant to UV and extreme temperatures, and have virtually no shrinkage. They are also resistant to moisture, which contributes to latex breakdown. Additionally, cured platinum silicone can resist oils from handling and even solvents. Platinum silicones are used globally for displays, props, sculptures, animatronics, and other applications where long-term stability is important, such as museum installations.
Few room-temperature curing materials can rival the long-term stability of platinum-cured silicone rubbers.
